Schneideritis

Schneideritis is the flaking or bubbling off of the black paint or varnish on the sides/bezels of lens elements. The defect can be visually quite striking, and (once you know what you’re looking at) easy to diagnose, but is relatively benign as it has a very minor effect on image formation. We (currently, I) are not trying to push you to buying new, expensive gear. Instead, our approach is the opposite (in all aspects). Instead we want to help you made informed decisions, and if we can be said to ‘push’ anything, that would be relatively cheap, old gear.
